Key Dates in Keystone XL Pipeline as Trump Claims Contenious Project Being Revived The revival of the long dead Keystone XL pipeline project has sent shockwaves through environmental and Indigenous communities that have fought tirelessly against it for over a decade.

The contentious oil pipeline, which would carry hundreds of thousands of barrels of oilsands bitumen from Alberta to Texas, was initially proposed in 2008 under the Harper government.

After Obama rejected Keystone in 2012, TransCanada, now known as TC Energy, submitted multiple new applications and route revisions that were met with opposition from environmental groups and Indigenous communities.
