Ebola Outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo Becomes Deadliest in Its History The Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed the 2018 2020 crisis as the deadliest Ebola outbreak on record, with 2,325 fatalities and counting.

This outbreak is now only rivalled by the West African epidemic of 2014 2016 in terms of sheer scale. The Bundibugyo strain, responsible for this outbreak, has proven particularly resistant to treatment.

As a result, there are no approved vaccines or therapies available to combat it.
